Data, optimization, and editorial methodology

Holiday Optimizer is a planning tool, not an employment-law authority. This page explains where the dates come from, what the algorithm actually optimizes, how AI-assisted articles are published, and what you should verify before requesting leave.

1. Holiday data

The optimizer loads public-holiday dates from the open-source date-holidays dataset. Country, state or province, and available regional selections determine which calendar is loaded. The dates are calculated locally in the browser; a user’s holiday selection is not sent to a holiday API.

Regional calendar pages add a second quality layer: the displayed list is filtered against the government sources linked on that page, and documented one-off public holidays can be added when an upstream package has not incorporated them yet. Every regional page shows the date on which that comparison was last completed.

Holiday names and eligibility are not universal. A date can be a statutory day off, a bank holiday, a state-employee holiday, or simply a commonly observed day depending on the jurisdiction. The page states which source and limitation apply.

2. What the optimizer calculates

The algorithm constructs a calendar from the selected date range, recurring days off, public holidays, company days off, and pre-booked PTO. It then searches for a combination of breaks that fits the available PTO allowance and the selected break style.

A “day off” total includes the PTO dates and the adjacent weekends, public holidays, or company days that belong to each recommended break. Routine weekends that are unrelated to a recommendation are not counted as newly unlocked time off. This keeps the result focused on dates the plan actually connects.

The numerical maximum is not automatically the best personal calendar. Approval rules, travel cost, caregiving, blackout periods, hourly PTO deductions, and a preference for shorter or longer breaks are outside the model. That is why every result remains editable and why multiple planning styles are available.

3. Testing and reproducibility

Automated tests cover holiday loading, date boundaries, weekend customization, pre-booked leave, company days, break totals, and representative optimization cases. Content tests also check cited guide examples and prevent public framework assets from being blocked by the site’s crawler rules.

The 10-, 15-, and 20-day numbers on regional pages are generated during the site build by the same production optimization function used by the interactive tool. They are not manually inflated marketing examples. Each page states the assumed year, workweek, strategy, and inputs so a reader can reproduce or modify the plan.

4. Editorial and AI-assistance policy

Some guides are drafted or revised with AI assistance. They are attributed to Holiday Optimizer as an organization rather than to a person who did not write them. AI assistance is used for structure and prose; it is not treated as an authoritative source.

Pages that make calendar, legal, or policy claims should link to primary sources such as government holiday calendars, employment-standards guidance, or the product’s own reproducible output. Travel information changes quickly and should be confirmed with the attraction, transport provider, or government advisory before booking.

An “updated” date is changed when the page receives a substantive factual, methodological, or planning revision—not merely because the site was rebuilt.

5. Corrections and limitations

Employer calendars override this site. Remove holidays your workplace does not observe, add substitute or company days, and verify the final request in your leave system. Holiday Optimizer does not provide legal, tax, travel, or employment advice.

6. Licensing and attribution

The date-holidays code and data remain subject to their upstream licences. The holiday data is provided under CC BY-SA 3.0. The full attribution and code-licence notice are available in the Terms.
